Funny how things work out.
Norman Lear portrayed Archie Bunker as a joke, and Meathead and Gloria as "in" on the joke, smarter, and oh-so-cool.
- Edith played the part of America. Clueless.
Archie was right about so many things, and in so many ways as it turns out, and Meathead and Gloria were nitwits (as was the audience cheering them on).
- America continues to be clueless, in large part.

Except good ol' Carrol O'Connor did NOT even remotely believe in anything that "Archie" said, and was fully aligned with "Meathead" and "Gloria".
