[The Torah in Genesis describes Ishmael (the personification of Islam) as a “wild ass.” Thousands of years later Muslim keep reverting to type and their biblical character is still intact. What’s more, events in history often take on a life of their own and momentum overrides the intentions of the opposing parties. Today’s war in Gaza is a textbook example. Israel and Hamas, polar opposites, are feeding off each other creating a maelstrom that can’t be stopped. Every time Israel (Jacob) agrees to a “humanitarian” pause, it creates an opening for Ishmael that he can’t help but exploit. It’s hard to say how long this will last, but the destruction of Hamas is the only way to end the deadly synergy. df]
