There is a helluva lot more compensation in the military other than cash money. Bonuses, allowances, and stipends can add quite a bit more cash than just the paycheck. And then there's all the other built in bennies.
OTOH, the free market ought to decide what low skill work pays, to a large extent. Problem is that we'd soon be back in the labor abuse situation of the 19th century if it was all up to them. Because given NO community support system (EBT etc) people will work for any slave rate to avoid starvation.
So find your balance point. And nobody ever joined the Army for the money, so drop that BS.
