You can easily tell when something has 'turned' (say milk, cheese,or meat). It smells and tastes bad having 'fundamentally transformed' from something good into something not good, if not just bad.
The historical record follows that pattern.
Whether you ascribe to the Strauss-Howe generational cycle theory (it's been nearly 80 years since WWII), or the Turchin secular cycle (it's been nearly 250 years since America's founding), or the life-span of World Reserve Currencies, it very much smells and tastes like we are undergoing the 'fundamental transformation' of the America we once knew into something as yet unknown but decidedly un-American.
