Most have heard, and know the lyrics, to the song "This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land" but guess what happened while everyone was busy singing?
Look at just how much of the land now belongs to the government...

Easy now, most of that land is either too mountainous, a desert, or too swampy to be bought at any price from the original owner (the U.S. Government).
The good stuff has been picked over.
