Actually, the war wasn't over until Gen Richard Taylor (son of Zach) surrendered the Dept of Mississippi on May 4 and Gen Simon Buckner (father of US General Simon Buckner, Jr) surrendered the Dept of Texas to Edward Canby on May 26.
