This flag represents slavery, hatred, and bigotry--liberal ideals. It has no place at a GOP rally, & any right-winger waving it is a philosophical traitor

Plus-They lost.
I agree it would be inappropriate to wave the battle flag at any political rally because of the ease with which such an act could be misinterpreted, thanks to the stupidity of extremist groups. Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that what the flag means to him is “not the whole picture”either. Many Southerners, like myself were raised to see that flag as a representative symbol of our region, it’s distinctive culture, and the military (not political) heritage of our ancestors. It has been used as a tool to teach the importance of duty, courage, and perseverance in the face of defeat. It should be noted that the example of Confederate ancestors motivated and inspired some of America’s greatest military leaders such as George Patton and Chesty Puller. I will not turn my back on a heritage that, in part, inspired me and many others to a long career of military service. To do so would not be very conservative.
