I have never in my increasingly long life felt vulnerable as a Jew in America. I never even dreamed it would happen. But it has now — with the Obama administration.
My maternal grandfather visited Germany in 1937, accompanying his mother, who was born there. He rarely spoke of it, and sometimes referred to himself as a Dutchman, instead of a Deutscher, because of the shame for what they saw.
