Election 2014: What is at stake


I learned many years ago to not make predictions about elections. If things had gone the way I expected back then, Bill Clinton would still be dragging that hundred dollar bill through a trailer park in Arkansas while Hillary was busy falsifying billing records to keep him supplied with those hundred dollar bills. Obviously things didn’t work out that way. I do however give myself the luxury of being cautiously optimistic when it seems appropriate, and now that we are just two days away from heading to the polls I am willing to go there. I believe the GOP will take the Senate and pick up a respectable number of seats in the House, and they will also make serious gains in governorships and state legislatures. I am not ready to predict a massive blowout, but I am willing to hope for one. The potential upside for a big GOP win is pretty obvious, but the potential downside for failure to take the Senate will be devastating. This is make-or-break time for the GOP.    (continue reading)
