The Value of Public Ridicule


A new feature here at Dispatches From The Conservative Underground is a page called Buffoonery featuring some of the more egregious examples of the buffoonery that abounds in our culture, and in our government. Fortunately for us, there is plenty of material to fill the page, but unfortunately for the whole world there is plenty of material to fill the page. The purpose of the page is obviously entertainment, but a more important reason for it is that it is in the best interest of society if such buffoonery is met with the proper amount of public ridicule to help the buffoon in question understand the stupidity of their behavior, and to prevent others from mistaking the buffoonery for normal behavior and joining in.


We’ve all been in public and discovered something embarrassing, such as an open fly, two different shoes, or something stuck in our teeth. Isn’t it great to have a friend who is kind enough to mention it to you before the rest of the world notices? Well, here at DFTCU, we’re not that friend; we’re the rest of the world and by the time we point out your buffoonery, your friends have missed their chance.  (continue reading
