Tonight President Obama will make a prime-time address to
the nation to explain to the American people his plans to deal with ISIS.
Reports indicate his plan includes strikes on ISIS targets in Syria, as well as
arms and training for Syrian rebels. Normally I would at least try to rally
behind the President in a situation like this, but I think we should all
prepare ourselves to be underwhelmed.
Don’t get me wrong, I strongly believe it is time to take
the fight to ISIS, and I believe the best targets are in Syria where the group
is headquartered. It is my belief that the right way to do this is to hit them
long, hard, and continuously until there is nothing left to hit, and that we
should hit them under whatever rock they hide anywhere in the world. I also
believe the President is bound by law to ask for Congressional approval, and
that Congress should pass that legislation unanimously. It is my sincere belief
that this situation calls for the United States, not to be the world’s police
force, but to step up and be the strong, moral leadership the world needs and
expects from us.
I just have no confidence in Barack Obama’s ability to deliver
that kind of leadership. (continue reading)
