CDC Level-3 Travel Alert.........................from Rico

Close, but no cigar!

 

A day (or more) late, and a bit data short, the CDC has issued a Level-3 Travel Alert advising Americans to NOT travel to three West African countries because of the Ebola outbreak.

- Not mentioned was the American who died in Nigeria after flying there from one of those countries, and who had a flight arranged to return home to Coon Rapids, MN a few weeks hence.

 

MSM coverage is, as usual, pathetic and superficial.

- Nothing to worry about is about the gist of the coverage.

 

Whatever media does mention about Ebola stresses that exposure to bodily fluids (sweat-saliva-blood-urine) is the means of transmission.

- Not mentioned is the BBC report from 2012 that Ebola could also be transmitted via droplets in the air...AIRBORNE TRANSMISSION...which, like pneumonic plague is a completely different ball game.

 

Well intended, but ignorant, advice will soon begin appearing suggesting that surgical masks, or even N95 masks will protect you. They will NOT.

- Bad advice can and will kill you, and this is completely backwards advice.

 

Surgical masks, SARS masks, N95 masks are intended to protect others from YOU, not you from OTHERS. These masks do not 'seal' to the face, and they do not protect against inhalation of airborne droplets...they are meant to protect others from YOUR sneezes, etc. Stocking up with a few of these may give you a sense of security and of being prepared, but it will be a false sense of security. 

- Anything less than a full-face. tightly sealed 'gas mask' with proper bio filters will be of no use to you.

 

IF the worst WERE to happen, about all you can do is:

- Keep your hands clean.

- Do not touch your eyes-nose-mouth with your hands.

- Avoid concentrations of people.

- Stay inside and avoid contact with others.

- Avoid contact with the infected.
