[That old tongue-in-cheek rhetorical question “is the Pope Catholic?” may be taking on new meaning after Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to Israel. Expectations are that the Pontiff will be all-in on the Fakestinian side and call for the end of the “occupation.” Another item said to be high on the Pope’s agenda would make it impossible for Jews to pray at David’s Tomb. But that would require Netanyahu’s decision to play ball with the Church and undermine his own people’s rights to the Jewish holy site. Warnings about a sellout to the Vatican - and Netanyahu’s lack of spine - have been rife for ages and the Pope’s visit might be the cover Bibi needs to consummate the deal. Which raises another old question that’s not rhetorical. Will this Pope return Jewish goodwill and hospitality with the the proverbial Papal “kick in the pants?” We will soon see. df]
