Jim McDonnell for LA County Sheriff..............................

Folks:
Probably like you, most of my friends and associates know very little about the candidates who are running to be our next Sheriff.
While I know most of the candidates and am impressed with some, one candidate stands out for me in this election, Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell.
Jim is an exceptionally qualified person for this office. He spent most of his career with LAPD and came very close to being selected as the Chief of Police. Ultimately Chief Beck was selected for that position and Jim served as Beck’s second in command, overseeing the implementation of a community-based policing model that Jim had crafted.
Four years ago, McDonnell accepted the position of Chief of Police of the second largest city in Los Angeles county, Long Beach. From the comments and reports that have come to my attention, he has done a first rate job.
Two or three of the other candidates are quite qualified individuals. But I strongly believe we need an outsider to come into the Sheriff''s Department and overhaul how the department meets its responsibilities. I also think that only an outsider with the experience, proven leadership, track record, and intelligence that McDonnell possess can make the changes that are clearly needed.
In my opinion McDonnell is an exceptionally qualified administrator and is prepared to oversee the re-making of the largest Sheriff's department in the United States. Maybe even more important is my belief that McDonnell also has the leadership skills, judgment, integrity, and political strength  to make the changes necessary in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.  It is for all of these reasons that Jim has received the endorsements of the LA Times, LA Daily News and every other major newspaper, as well as endorsements from a host of elected officials and organizations.
For more information on Jimhis endorsers and his vision for LASD, you can visit his website. (Just click on these links!)
I urge you to cast your vote for Jim McDonnell for Sheriff. I am confident that one, two, three years from now, you will be quite pleased that you did!
Confession:  I did not write this, but I enthusiastically endorse it.  It was written by my friend, former LA County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.
