[It was only a few days ago that Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon called John Kerry “messianic and obsessive.” What followed a day or so later was Ya’alon’s perfunctory apology. Now consider the fact the man was the head of Israel’s military intelligence and that he chose to make his feelings known in a (HEH) “private conversation” with a senior reporter from Yedioth Ahronoth, a major Israeli daily not known for its love of Netanyahu or his government’s policies. Add to that, there has been no official reprimand or public upbraiding to date. Far from it, the dust hasn’t even settled yet and Ya’alon is still at it – choosing his words very carefully. So frankly, his “gaffe” is looking more like an authorized unauthorized leak to me.
It may be premature – or wishful thinking - to conclude that this is an indication Israel has finally caught on to Obama’s game and has decided it’s better off not playing. But as the moment of truth arrives for Israel, Iran and the USA, we should know with greater clarity. df]
