The French study is asinine. Birth rates are falling everywhere, and most of the world currently has birth rates below replacement. In Russia and much of Europe, the native population is actually decreasing now. The same is true in Japan and will soon be true in China.
The correct projection is the UN low estimate. The medium estimate that is cited in the article assumes that all countries have birth rates at the replacement level, which is absurd.
World population will peak at 8 to 8.5 B sometime around 2030 and decline thereafter. It will be lower than the current value by 2100.
