The Roman Silver Denarius was the rate of daily pay for a Roman soldier.
- Common laborers and field hands received far less...the equivalent of pennies.
A Silver Denarius would equate to about US$20 worth of purchasing-power in Roman times (over $7K), and subsistance wages would have made 'thirty pieces of Silver' in those days a very tempting proposition indeed.
Not to worry today, however. Both Jamie and Lloyd are doing FAR better than any mere Legionary, Centurian, or even a Caesar.
