[There is a NYT foreign affairs columnist (hint: he has same last name as mine) who's been loving Israel to death for decades. One day (I think it was at the height of Intifada One) he worried out loud that the Jews in Israel were lapsing into a primitive "tribalism" by the mere act of defending themselves. As usual the dumb cluck didn't have a clue: His timing was way off and he picked the wrong "primitive" tribes. df]
