Theo: This is my little rifle that i have been developing over the past 2 or 3 years, inspired by your very own .30/280 british round, developed along with the em-2, and which was the vehicle for which the fn fal was developed and designed. The fn fal as built for the trials of the .30/280 british was a very much smaller, lighter and more compact weapon than it turned out when up-sized to the 7.62x51mm nato, forced upon england by the united states insistence upon weapons & cartridge standardization. And, just as the m-14, it proved almost uncontrollable in full auto fire in .308, whereas the .30/280 british cartridge and the em-2 rifle were very stable platforms in full auto fire. In my opinion, we would not have the controversy over the battle effectiveness of the 5.56mm nato had the brits stuck to their guns and adopted the 280 british, perhaps the finest intermediate infantry round ever developed. As promised, it has issued forth in the ar-15 platform, and not the ar-10, which is far larger, heavier and a real load to pack around. Yours JJ

JJ, can you link us to all your articles on the cartridge? I'd especially like to know what parts you purchased for your AR and the ballistics. Thanks!
It looks like a gem there jj.
And you've turned the corner health wise? slow and steady there ...

minicapt:
i do not favor the 6.5mm nor smaller bores. i do, however like the .277 and .284 caliber bullets, as standardized here in america.
i had a very hard time deciding between the 7mm-08 and the .260 remington as a basis for my wildcat, and finally chose the 7mm-08 from which to have my first set of loading dies fabricated.
i will try to link to earlier posts on cartridge development here in the next several days.

p.s. you can google them. not too many other people writing on "jj's brit." laughing.
Well, there'd be me, but then again you'll find me commenting on John's posts as well.
The JJ's Brit is a great little round, with enough punch to make it a dandy deer rifle to about 300 meters. It has more punch than the 7.62x39 round, and much better long range performance.
drew:
all true. :-)
friends, drew is a good cartridge designer. he contacted me after he noticed my articles, and come to find out, he's designed a very similar cartridge using the .277 caliber instead of the .284.
performance would be, to say the least, outstanding. as good as my cartridge close in, probably better at the far end of such cartridge performance parameter.
he favors a little shorter distance from case head to shoulder, and a little longer cartridge neck.
it would be tough to choose between the two.
and, drew has given me invaluable help in load development. i think my "seat of the pants" methods would have gotten me here, all the same, but his advice and counsel alleviated a lot of anxiety along the way, and avoided some clear mistakes.
