Omar Barghouti, the founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, told a forum that critics of the school’s political science department, who sponsored the event, were suppressing free speech and that 'we’re witnessing the rise of a new McCarthyism.' He also too criticized Mayor Bloomberg's support for the school's freedom to host the gathering.
