Even my friends who live in Israel don’t know what to make of their political rising star, Yair Lapid. But if they read this piece from NYC’s Jewish Press they’ll have a better idea. As it turns out, Mr. Lapid is an Israeli assimilationist who wants to invite the USA-based Conservative and Reform “movements” (described by Mona Charen as the Democratic Party with Jewish holidays) into Israel’s tent. Some time ago I predicted – warned really – that having seen Israel become more religious and nationalist, these “branches” would double their efforts to sew their brand of religious confusion inside the Jewish state. In Yair Lapid, they now have their inside man.
