I'll be blogging updates throughout the evening: "2012 London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony."
And from earlier today, "Palestinians Cheer IOC's Rejection of Moment of Silence for Munich Massacre."
Also, Limor Livnat, Israel's Minister of Culture and Sport, will protest at the opening ceremonies. See: "Israel Underwhelmed by Surprise Munich Memorial."
Deborah Lipstadt is not pleased either:
Never before or since were athletes murdered at the Games. Never before or since were the Games used by terrorists for their evil purposes. Never before or since were those who came to participate in a sports competition murdered for who they were and where they came from. And see Paula in Israel, "Munich 11 - They're All Gone."
The proper place to acknowledge such a tragedy is not in a so-called spontaneous moment in front of 100 people, but in a purposeful action by the entire Olympic “family.”
UPDATE: From the Times of Israel, "Sports minister stands silently at Olympic opening event."
