David Letterman has caused outrage among Batman fans after apparently spoiling the ending of The Dark Knight Rises during an interview with Anne Hathaway.

The late night talk show host shocked the 28-year-old actress - and many viewers - after he seemed to reveal a crucial plot element while discussing the final installment in Christopher Nolan's trilogy.
