The Cupcake Generation......................by Shelly

I was driving home today with my best friend in the back of the car, a four year old purebred Rough Collie named "Star". Actually, Star's full name is "Clarion's Stars and Stripes Forever", a fitting name for today, July 4th, 2012.

I happened to hear the end of a broadcast where one of the panelists referred to "The Cupcake Generation" and it caught my attention.

He elaborated that a 17 year old in 1776 would be carrying a gun and fighting for his country's independence from the tyranny of King George and England. By 26 he would be married and raising a couple of kids himself.

Today, our 26 year old, under Obama and his nanny state, is likely to be unemployed living in Mommy's cellar, playing video games and waiting for his girl friend to bring him some pot to smoke. I missed the rest of it due to a cell phone call. But, you get it; we have raised The Cupcake Generation.

But, think about it. The government shelter of 99 weeks of unemployment insurance is grotesque. Don't tell me there aren't any jobs, because I drive down the street and see "help wanted" signs all the time. There are pages of ads in the newspapers looking for workers.

The problem is: Unemployment insurance pays better than the available jobs. Once the insurance runs out, Presto! A magical force finds them work. Maybe just until they build up enough credits to go back on unemployment, or find a way to fake a disability.

Our citizens need to take a long look at ourselves; do we want to be sucking on the teat of government forever and become just another nation as exists in Europe or, do we want to regain our position in the world as the exceptional place that America was and can be?

This coming election will tell the answer. It is the most important election of our lives. Make a difference.

Ronald Reagan said "The government is not the solution; it's the problem."

Mr. Obama feels the opposite.

What do you think?

Have a safe and sane 4th of July. Remember what our forefathers gave to make this country free. God Bless America.

There are still a lot of 19 year olds carrying M-4s up and down the hills of Nastyland. But your post remains valid overall. We can only hope the ones that are in Afghanistan will run for office when they get out of the military.
