Has Israel Outgrown The Left?.............by Dan Friedman

On some mornings, NY Times readers can be excused for thinking they mistakenly bought the left-wing Israeli rag, Ha’aretz. Those who still persist in reading the NYT (count me out) have grown accustomed to its macro coverage of Israel, but in the past few weeks we’ve seen the New York Times reach down to the microscopic level, regaling its readers with stories of women’s seating on two Israeli bus routes, a small-scale contretemps between orthodox and “ultra-orthodox” Jews, graffiti sprayed on a few West Bank walls, and now, wait for it ...the coming bankruptcy of Israel’s left-leaning TV Channel 10. This is not “reporting,” it’s hysteria born of the knowledge that all signs in Israel point to a populace growing more religious and politically more conservative day after day. In other words, Israel is finally coming into its own, and on the left (here and there) that triggers an involuntary response closely resembling a cave of bats moments after someone throws a flaming torch inside.
