The Jews are an odd Nation. For all our profound love for life and Hashem, we still carry within us the DNA of our downfall – the mixed multitudes or the “erev Rav.” It’s this perpetual internal struggle - set in motion as we were leaving Egypt - that has caused Jews so much tragedy and trouble through the ages. The fight against the Erev Rav is constant and today it’s far from abating. In fact, with the Land of Israel now the prize, it’s becoming more intense.
