Israel under Olmert blew two crucial opportunities to blunt Iran’s capacity to project power abroad. Both the 2006 Lebanon war and the Gaza war two years later were fought tentatively and incompetently and Israel allowed each to end indecisively. Thus Iranian clients Hezbollah and Hamas were left intact and instead of severing two of Iran’s tentacles, Israel permitted them both to get much stronger – as they are today. Who knows? Maybe one day Iran will let them play with one of its hydrogen bombs.

Unfortunately for the United States under the Obama administration has shown the weakness and inaction that is complicit in Iran's comfort level for an operation such as this.
