The US's SAT reading scores just set a new, historic, unprecedented, all-time low for 2011!
I call this the "no voter left behind" phenomenon. There are enough of them now to guarantee 'they' get the politicians they (not we) deserve.

OECD’s [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development] rankings have U.S. students in 14th place in reading literacy among OECD nations. In mathematics, U.S. 15-year-olds are below-average performers among OECD nations—ranked 25th. Not what you can call stellar performances.
