After Obama took an active role in throwing Mubarak and Qaddafi under the bus, you have to wonder why he’s giving a much more ruthless, bellicose and anti-American Syrian despot a free pass. Here’s one explanation I’ve heard: Obama’s “Arab Spring” moves are calculated to handicap Israel’s position in the neighborhood, and undermining an Israeli frontline enemy like Assad would have the opposite effect. But hey, why would the President of The United States, of all people, do something as malicious and Machiavellian as that? df
