Q: When is a budget cut NOT a budget cut?
A: When it is a "baseline" budget cut!
I know, I know. The temptation was strong to answer "when a politician does it" and that would have been technically correct, but for those who DO NOT KNOW that the favorite 'trick' of our "professional politicians is not 3-card Monty, but the "baseline budget cut" let's examine how this works:
- You spend $5,000 on beer in 2008
- You spend $6,000 on beer in 2009, an increase of 20%
- You spend $7,200 on beer in 2010, an increase of 20%
- To make your wife happy, you agree to cut your beer budget by 50%. She's happy.
- So, you ONLY spend $7,920 on beer in 2011, an increase of 10%.
BASELINE BUDGET CUTS are not a decrease in spending, but a decrease in the amount of the INCREASE IN SPENDING!
Yeah.
- And our spending has increased by how much per year the last few years?
This means every single time a politician has proudly claimed that he "cut the budget" they really only cut their "baseline" budget, which makes for a super 30-second sound bite for the boob tube, and a swell re-election campaign ad, but it also means today's crop of hypocrites are no different from the previous versions. It matters not what initial is behind their name. Not (R), and not (D). They're all crooks.
- Boner was 'having us on' ...awww, Hell....lying to us! His 'cuts' were more of the same-old same-old BS. Just wait until Reid & Company in the Senate get serious about ramming the boner to us!
Only the Tea Party Congressionals were smart and/or honest enough to not support this con game.
