I can read that because i trained as a type setter a compositor back in the 60s.
Actually, it is mildly useful talent to have. When I drove a truck for a year, I got so used to seeing things in the mirror that I could read signs in them.
It's useful for plotting the positions of Replicator starships at Stargate Command.
