Question:

How do I factory restore a Toshiba Satellite Por A100 to factory fresh without the recovery disks?

Have been given an old one and need it 'fixed'.

Hey, slugger -

You weren't very clear as to what "fixed" means. If it currently has some nasty problem, like it won't boot up, then the only real solution (without the recovery disc) is to install a fresh Windows.

If it's just slow, then go to the Search or Run box, type in "msconfig", click on the Startup tab and uncheck everything except the things you actually want to activate during boot-up, like any anti-virus program, firewall, etc. Nothing else should be checked. It's all those unnecessary 'pre-loaders' that gobble up memory and slow a machine down.

There are other things you can do to clean things up, but getting rid of the pre-loaders is #1. If the machine still acts sluggish after a reboot, then there's something serious going on and we're probably back to installing a fresh Windows.

Hope that helps,
Doc

One can typically purchase the factory recovery disk from the local Toshiba service center for a reasonable amount.

Helloooooo?

Pull the ear wax outta yo ears!

he said FIXED!!!!!!!

can you say Knoppix?

Was ist KNOPPIX®? www.knoppix.de

Toshiba Satellite Por A100= A100-DE1, intel Celeron M 390, 1.7Ghz, 60GB HD, 15.4inch screen.

To fix it , put a live linux CD in the DVD drive, boot up and start surfing the internet.

A live linux cd will erase your internet web tracks when it is turned off.

Boot Knoppix and see if all the parts are working.

Boot knoppix and keep Theo's brain alive and well. Learning a new language will stave off Alzheismer's Disease.

It will be fun, stick it to the man. Don't pay MSFT.

Boot knoppix and down load the restore CD\DVD from Toshiba. That 'll fix it.

Boot Knoppix, tune in the "THE WHO", Baba O'Riley , crank it up and break the knobbs off.
