Dude,
That review sucks! I took my 15 year old son and we both enjoyed the hell out of it. As did, as far as I could tell from the cheers and clapping, everyone else in the theater.
It was an action film. Not The King's Speech. The writing wasn't any worse than any other summer action flick. And action it had in spades. And it was the first film to portray the American military in a positive light - extremely positive - since perhaps Blackhawk Down or We Were Soldiers.
You want an accurate review check out the one at Blog Hollywood with the quote that the movie "recognize[ed] the rich thematic fullness and meaning found in a story that explores themes such as bravery, honor, valor, country, self-sacrifice, brotherhood, forgiveness, and what it means to be a man."
Plus it had aliens. And explosions.
What the heck is not to like?
That was an incredibly superficial and inaccurate review. Everyone who respects the Corps and the military, and loves a good action picture with black hats and white hats and some gray along the way, should see this movie.
The audience applauded at the showing I attended.
