So why did it take a Japanese person to come up with this? Why did not the US come up with this? What would the reasons be in the US to keep someone from doing this?
I would be curious as to how much oil has to be burned to produce the power that the machine uses to melt, boil, and process the plastic. Is it even a net gain overall?

Because some government bureaucracy would step in and kill it because the end product kills an endangered earwig.
Because GE and its band of merry lawyers would sue to stop it, hanging it up in court for an eternity.

Because the process is a derivation of the technique developed by Abraham Gesner in 1846, as demonstrated in Charlottetown, PEI that year.
Of course Dr Gesner's technique was based on that of Rhases of Persia, c.800AD.
