The phone rang early this morning at 0h-my-God-it's-early (for civilians this is military-speak for REALLY kinda early), and my first thought was "what's wrong?"
I was WRONG!
- It was my now-adult SON calling to wish me a Happy Veteran's Day and to thank me for serving!
(He was preparing t go to 'work' as a teacher/coach, and BOTH of us were already 'up' drinking coffee, preparing for the day ahead.)
What a wonderful way to start the day. I have been happy, and inordinately pleased, all day as a result of his call.
- Still am.
Belatedly, I now take time to wish the same to all my fellow veterans. Whether you served in peacetime, or in combat as I did, THANK YOU!
- We ALL know it's not at ALL like in the movies from Hollywood. It's just not. You understand this better than anyone. I know you do.
And thank YOU son, today meant more than any medals or ribbons EVER could.
- This was sweeter than five rounds of HE-quick time-on-target from the redlegs. Yee-hawwww!!!
A proud veteran, and even prouder Dad sends.
- Hope you get this "five-by-five and lima charlie!"
