Ok the acquired haemophlia seem to have been beaten. Now she is starving to death, she will not eat. The nurses are trying their best to make her eat but it is not working. The 'doctors/consultants' are f**king pathetic and dont give a s**t. She is now down to about 6 stone and is skeletal. Advice needed 'cos I don't know what to do. Are there any drips that I can arrange that will give her the nourishment to keep her alive?

Theo, I'm sorry to hear about your mom.
Why haven't the doctors authorized feeding her intravenously? Can a nurse do it, if you ask her to do so?
Is this typical of the NHS, or is there a special reason the doctors are doing nothing?
Oh my God, I'm so sorry! Same thing happened with my father. He absolutely refused any nourishment. They said they could offer food three times and if he refused then by law they couldn't force him.
Theo, insist that a doctor order enteral feeding for your Mom.
Good luck man.
Theo,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I wish I had some advice. My wife went through this with her mother when she became very ill.
Other than intravenously feeding her or with a feeding tube, I don't know any other suggestions.
You have my email if you want to "talk" or, well, anything else.
God bless.
I'm a nurse, not a doctor, and I'm not sure on 'best practices' as used in Britain. Over here in the colonies, a person unable to eat can be put on total parenteral nutrition, which is to say that they get fed through the IV line. Another option is a PEG tube, more or less a 1/2" tube straight through the stomach wall. Lots of people get them, although in your mother's age and condition, she may be a poor risk for the minor surgical procedure to install one. They are fabulous for feeding, though!
I wish I could give you a magic method to get your mom eating again (or at least, nourished). Apart from what I've already said, I will add her well-being to my prayer list.
God Bless,

Theo, My prayers are going out for you and your mom.
Have they tried a nasogastric tube?
Have you spoken to the doctors about your concerns and established what any medical plan is?
This seems ridiculous.. they must feed the poor woman .. she is not up to good decisions yet.. good luck

Hi Theo.
Sorry for this. Tugboat is right. TPN can be established thru placement of a nasa-gastric tube - or 'keofeed' tube as we call it here in the colonies. small bore tube thru the nose into stomach and then appropriate supplements run thru pump. An IV can address any dehydration issues. Best of luck - prayers here for all.

Mr.Spark,I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. We lost my mom in Feb and I know how hard it is to deal with the hospital folks. To them it's their job and for you it's your whole world. Your mom will be in our prayers.God bless you and her. Marc1921 Semper Fi
Theo - My wife had a PEG placed when she was in the hospital in 2002. Not only a great way for the liquid feeding, but the nurses used it to give her her medications.
Can/will she drink? Perhaps you can have her take Boost or something similar?
Once her nutritional needs are met I think you'll see her improve dramatically.
You and your mum are in my thoughts and prayers!
Prayers UP!
My step mom had a massive stroke a couple months ago. One of the effects is that she can no longer swallow. To keep her fed, they put a tube directly into her stomach just above her navel.
She was having probs with pneumonia when they did the surgery, so it can't be all that traumatic or stressful on the system. She's also in her late 70s and not in very good general health prior to the stroke. (those details offered in case such things come up in convos with your docs/consults).
They feed her 3 times a day through that guthole and she seems to be improving.
Thoughts and prayers for you, your mom and all friends and family of same.
