Turkey's Historic Antisemitism

Sixty-eight years ago, during World War II, 769 Jewish refugees attempted to escape from the Nazi's and reached Turkey.  The Turks treated them with zero tolerance, obtuseness, and an appalling lack of compassion, and after detaining them for ten weeks, expelled them in their rickety vessel to the Black Sea, where they all died (except one) in the worst disaster in the annals of the pre-state Jewish immigration to the Land of Israel.  The ship was called the Struma.
