Are the ads safe? I was thinking of following one but I wasn't sure it was safe. I also don't know if the link goes where they make me thing they go.
I believe you Brits would say "They're Pants".
Here in the US we would say "They Suck".
The ads are OK. I understand the need for revenue. But the "You might like ..." stuff is very annoying.
As they say in Latin "Gelt ist gelt und pfennig helfen." The deal seems to be 3 from your site, which seems pointless, and one paid advert slipped in. Good luck with them. If I had the jack to give to Plan B I would. More annoying and unremunerative is that the Addthis pop up while a good thing in itself is to sensitive and persistent. It opens without intent and sometimes does not want to go away.
Theo - I for one don't like your new "ad thingy". Too much crap to scroll through to get to the part of the blogs that I really like!

REALLY hate the ad thingy, Theo. Nauseatingly intrusive!
I'd say give 'em a while and see what happens. While it's true the new ads make the site look much more cluttered, if they pull in any kind of bucks, then they're worth it. If nothing drifts in, screw 'em.
My quibble is with the content. What I mostly see here are the usual generic web banners and it's hard to imagine anyone clicking on them. I'd think you'd do better by becoming an affiliate with specific companies and pushing their wares directly. Nor do they have to be computer-related. Just find some large retail outlets that have an affiliate program and start slapping banners around. The only constriction is that they'll probably have to be British companies in that paying people overseas is a big hassle and most affiliate programs don't do it.
Good luck on the project, old friend, but stay realistic. Many have tried to make it on the web and most have failed. I do think you'll have better odds pushing specific retail lines than generic ads, and since the affiliate programs are free to sign up with, give 'em a shot.
the change to text is much better. Page loads are much improved! I know I complained a bit harshly and I appologize because as they say in Chicago, "Biddness is bidness".
The thumbnails did not go down well but put income up by 75% from initial figures. Will stick with the text for easier loading and see how it goes. Have also reduced the number of posts on the page from 3 days worth to 40 which will spped up the page loading.
I read you site almost everyday. If ads help make you independent and keep the site going more power to you.
They don't bother me and if they did a little it would still be worth it.
