Robert Krentz was a prominent rancher in Arizona, his family cattle ranching business stretches back nearly 100 years. Krentz was featured several times over the past few decades in media reports regarding the problems surrounding illegal immigration into the United States across the Arizona border.
On March 27, 2010, Krentz was found shot dead on his ranch property; local authorities say evidence indicates that his assailant was most likely an illegal immigrant.
Krentz's killing has attracted national attention, and Democrat and Republican lawmakers from Arizona and neighboring New Mexico have called upon the federal government to send U.S. National Guard troops to secure the border in the aftermath of Krentz's murder.
