I think Wasatch is correct. The wpn depicted is certainly not a L-E No.5 as the stock is all wrong especially absence of side-mounted d-ring for sling. The mag is wrong and so is the trigger guard. Most telling is the placement of the rear sight. On a real No. 5 the sight is mtd over the bolt lever, not half-way down the forestock.

Lee Enfield No 5 Jungle carbine and somebody has done a very sensible thing and changed the buttplate getting rid of the nasty pad.
Ishapore 2A 7.62x51 that has been hacked and a jungle carbine flash hider installed.
I carried a Mk 5 in Malaya for 3 years, and it don't look much like one to me, - bit too long, the 5 was short, and easier to carry through jungle.

I also think Wasatch is correct ...the squared off magazine is indicative of the 7.62 conversion
most of the the 7.62 ishapore models weren't a conversion..they came out of the factory like that.
Warhorse you are right again ......that how they were made
this is probably one of the Gibbs conversions of the ishapore 2A rifles.
Gibbs also did a jungle carbine like this in a larger caliber..45-70 comes to mind but I'm not sure.
warhorse is correct.
