the trapdoor springfields have a story behind them...
my great great grandfather was a supply sergeant in the Massachusetts Militia right before the spanish-american war.
well, somehow right before an inspection..he ended up with 3 extra rifles. missing rifles are easy to explain (repair, ect) but extra rifles..not so easy.
so..he took 'em!
I'm told the .50-70 ones are fairly rare...
