Doctors and Politics -- A Stupid Mix

The latest "Presence of guns can increase risk of death" screed comes from the Southern Medical Journal, with the latest attempt of supposed medical academics to meddle in politics.

In 1986, Arthur Kellerman conducted a firearms study that claimed a firearm in the home is 43 times more likely to kill a family member than an intruder. Later, Kellerman admitted that his study did "not include cases in which burglars or intruders are wounded or frightened away by the use or display of a firearm." He also admitted his study did not look at situations in which intruders "purposely avoided a home known to be armed." Meanwhile, this same Arthur Kellerman was quoted in Health Magazine (March/April 1994) p 61 as having said the following:
