One of my favorite stories about General "Chesty Puller" comes from the Korean War.
When the Chinese first came across the Yalu the General called one of the front line units and asked how many Chinese were out there. He was told they had no idea.
After contacting a couple of more units and getting the same answer he was frustrated.
Finally the last unit he contacted he asked again, "How many Chinese are attacking you?"
The reply was, "Sir, we have a whole shit pot full."
The General hung up, turned to his aide and said,"Finally, someone up there that can count!"

When informed that the First Marines were surround by several Chinese divisions at Frozen Chosin, Chesty replied, "They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can't get away from us now, poor bastards!"
