Lucy of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' fame dies

Rock music critics thought the Beatles' classic song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was a veiled reference to LSD, but John Lennon always claimed the phrase came from his son, not from a desire to spell out the initials LSD in code.

Lucy Vodden, primary schoolmate of Julian Lennon, provided the inspiration. Lucy Vodden died after a long battle with lupus. She was 46.

Not military news, other than the fact that the Beatles assumed military regalia for their iconic album cover. Even though I tend more toward the blues I always liked that album, every song on it - I wore grooves in my original vinyl copy - and I honestly believe it changed the course of our collective culture.

Any chronic disease is a hard cut of the cards; Lucy's ordeal is over, now she really IS up there in the sky, with diamonds.

Maybe, but I doubt it...Lucy if she was a schoolmate, would have been in her 60's surely, not 40's, and acid was a big part of the Beatles consciousness at that time...

Lucy, "primary schoolmate of Julian Lennon ..." would probably not be in her 60s, unless she revives herself for another decade or so.
