After WW-II David Niven, who had served as a Lt Col in combat with the Commandos, was sent a bill from Inland Revenue based on all his earnings while in Hollywood, because he had returned to England. When he protested that he had come back to fight for his country the government clerk replied, "Who asked you to?"
