I'd say it was perhaps the fault of the "detective", as he chose what rifle to be pictured with for the story, most likely one of his own department's "patrol" rifles, but then I would of course be called a "racist" because I'd be intimating an error by a "person of colour".
Aside from that rifle being an AR-15 and NOT an AK-47, I'd be willing to bet my lunch money that the rifle in the photo is one ISSUED BY HIS OWN DEPARTMENT and not one taken "off the streets".
Actually it is an M-4 or most likely a COLT AR version of the M-4 (note telescoping butt stock). I am familiar with it because I used one for years. Additionally, AR's come in different calibers now. S&W has a .22 version. All of these M-16/4 lookalikes are available to civilians except liberal bastions like California (pisses me off to live here)which consider it an assault weapon just because it looks frightening to the pantywaste hippies that infest this once great state. But either way, it is NOT an AK.

I'm from New Orleans, and I can conclusively say what's wrong with this picture - it was taken in Kenner, Louisiana. That should explain everything.
As a moderator on the AK Files I can say with certainty what is wrong with the picture is that it even exists.
