Traditionally, Yorkshire pudding is eaten with gravy as a separate course before the beef. Alternatively, it may be served with jam, golden syrup or sugar as a pudding. Jam and cream on a Yorkshire pud is called Thunder and Lightning. With the addition of good butcher's sausages, the standard pudding batter* becomes Toad-in-the-hole.
*very similar to pancake batter.
