Most people have heard the song "El Paso" by Marty Robbins, a ballad about a cowboy and young woman named Felina. It was a very popular song back in its day, still heard today on the 'oldies' stations.
Well there is another song written by Marty Robbins that was never popular. I am sure most people don't know it even exists. It is called "Felina".
If you don't know the song "El Paso" you will not appreciate the other song "Felina".

I was aware of the tune but never saw a complete performance. My assumption is that it pre-dates "El Paso". "Felina" is more of a narrative with a melody as opposed to a 'complete' song (before the chorus & the bridge).
A songwriter friend has always said ..."The hit is in the rewrite". You can hear certainly what begat the hit!
Marty is one of the GREATS !!
And finally you need to dig up "El Paso City".
Cheers
I know and love both songs. Marty Robbins was a great singer and songwriter. He was also a racecar driver and raced in NASCAR's top level back in the 70's and 80's. One of the best story-telling songwriters alongside Harry Chapin and Jim Croce.
And don't forget my favorite, Big Iron.
Not only did I know this song, but my aunt and uncle took about 10 of us kids to a concert in "San Antone" back in the 60s to see Marty, Roy Clark, Hank Snow, and several others.
Marty could sing!
Sadly, Nashville no longer sells "Country" music in large part due to the mega-radio combines who control the music now called "country." It sounds like rock, is ever more similar to rap and has nothing to do with country whatsoever.
Go get some Geo. Jones, Dwight Yoakum, Buck Owens, Hank-Thompson,Williams Jr.&SR.or Snow, Johnny Rodriguez, Jack Greene, Geo. Strait, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Leanne Rhimes, Bob Wills, Ernest Tubbs, or David Ball. THAT is country music.
That SHania Twain,or anything coming out of Nashville now is crap.
You have to bribe any "people" who represent the artists by the labels just to pitch a song that they probably won't pass on to the artist anyway.
Real country is historical now.
The Possum was right. Nashville killed Country.
