Cincinnati, Ohio - Flying Pig Statue

Located in the "A" concourse of the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport, tucked back by gates A2-A3, is a statue to honor Cincinnati for being the city of flying pigs. Cincinnati got this moniker because years ago trainloads of pigs would be shipped to there for slaughter. When the train doors opened, pigs would "fly" out of the train cars and run all over parts of the city, trying to evade becoming bacon. [Greg, 06/22/2007]

A few years back, there was a city wide contest, where "pig" statues were created to celebrate Cincinnati's history with the pork industry. At one time, the Queen City was also known as Porkopolis.

There are few of the pigs left scattered around the city.

We also have a yearly marathon called the Flying Pig Marathon.
