Investors use the terms "short" and "long" to describe investment positions they are in, or plan to take.
Unlike political terms, these are pretty much what they seem to mean. Fancy that!
Looking at the attached chart, an investor would tell you to "go short US" (the US Dollar), but to "go long Canada" (the Canadian Dollar).
